Alma Road Peterborough
Construction of 96 residential units and a three storey care home for Accent Nene Housing association with associated highways and drainage works.
As a result of the increased congestion on our roads there is an increasing demand for traffic assessments to be carried out as part of the application for a site development. PRP carry out traffic assessments including assessing existing capacity and new traffic generated using digital techniques.
As part of the assessment process where required we develop site specific green travel plans taking into account existing public transport systems. We pride ourselves in negotiating reasonable site access and car park provision with the local highways departments. The above is incorporated into a full report to enable any planning requirements to be dealt with.
Increasingly it is becoming necessary to undertake off-site highway changes and improvements to the road network as a result of a planning condition. These works are usually controlled by sectional agreements which means the work has to be designed, specified and constructed in accordance with the local authorities’ requirements using acceptable methods of design.
We are very familiar with these requirements and carry out our designs to the required standard so that technical approval can be achieved. We provide the above services for the full range of works from a simple road widening scheme at a site entrance to new roundabouts or right hand turn lanes on major highway trunk roads. Where appropriate we use sophisticated software to aid us in our designs.
It is sometimes necessary, as part of the sectional agreement, for us to act as “engineer for the works” under an Institution of Civil Engineers standard conditions of contract. Where this is the case, in addition to producing the necessary design drawings and specifications, we produce bills of quantities and provide a full management service.
PRP have a wealth of experience in the design of off-site stormwater and foul water drainage systems. This can range from a single small diameter private sewer to a large culvert requiring local authority, water services company or the Environment Agency approval.
PRP are able to design and obtain technical approval for all off-site drainage systems that need to be adopted and therefore comply with the requirements of section 104 and 106 of the Water Industry Act 1991.
To provide the most efficient solution PRP use the latest software package including Micro Drainage WinDes to assist in producing the correct solution and all drainage works are undertaken or supervised by a chartered engineer to ensure that the design is appropriate and cost effective and completed within the necessary time frame.
PRP use a direct approach when dealing with statutory undertakers and consequently have built up excellent relationships with many of them, this has been proven time and time again to be of significant benefit to the client since substantial time and hence costs can be saved.

PRP was appointed by Brackley Investments to provide civil/structural engineering and surveying services for a new build medical centre in Chesham. The project site was situated adjacent to a major trunk road and presented several technical challenges, including a sloping site and contamination concerns.
