This is an award-winning example of urban regeneration which involved the conversion of an ornate masonry bott and shoe warehouse into 98 town houses and apartments complete with underground parking and a spacious courtyard.
Additionally, 48 new timber-framed houses were built on existing yard and hard surfacing areas, creating a blend of old and new architectural elements. The success of this project earned it’s recognition as a finalist in the “Large Residential Scheme of the Year Award” at the Procon awards in 2013.
The site presented numerous complexities including resolution of issues associated with underground ward air tunnels, old boiler house foundations and the preservation of ornate masonry and steel trusses.
The building was a listed structure therefore all details were critically analysed by the Conservation Officer to ensure that the historic significance was carefully preserved throughout the redevelopment.
