This project consisted of a conversion and extension of an existing two storey historic building to form residential apartments. The extension works included the introduction of a new second floor.
A historic building that dates back to 1773,was formerly used for a girls’ school and the headquarters of the USAAF 8th Air Force 1st Bombardment Wing from 1943 to 1945. The removal of the existing roof structure and introduction of the new second floor required careful assessment of the existing brickwork structure.
A new steel frame structure was designed and specified to provide support for the new second floor and mansard roof. Pad and reinforced ground beams were specified where the extensions were located in the areas of made ground and former cellars.
