PRP were initially appointed to inspect and report on damage to a retaining wall following severe flooding. Our report was presented to the insurers who then accepted its findings and covered the cost of the works.
PRP were then appointed to undertake the structural design of the new retaining wall, tender the work and act as contract administrator, managing the project on site until completion.
The project presented a number of difficulties such as working adjacent to a live watercourse and reducing the water levels in the brook to allow concrete to be poured and the work to be carried out safely. A sump had to be created in the brook to enable the water to be pumped into the outlet downstream creating a relatively dry working environment. Sheet piles also had to be installed to hold back the saturated bed (sludge) of the brook and allow formwork to be installed and the concrete poured.
On completion of the wall the bed of the watercourse had to be cleared via a suction rig, as approximately 4 tonnes of sludge and debris had been deposited in the brook.
